Why Vintage Restyling Rocks

Many hear the word "custom" and freak out. They expect it to be overly expensive and complicated. Even though it essentially means the same thing, the word "restyled" seems much less scary.

Restyling is really just the process of taking something that already exists and customizing it for your home, your decor and your style. Now that's something to freak out about (in a good way).

It's also the best option for those seeking something different, something unexpected and something that's just plain cool.

Here's why I've built a business around it...

1. Superb Quality

Let's face it... A lot of today's furnishings don't compare to the quality of vintage pieces. The new and beautifully handcrafted pieces that do exist today don't sell cheap (and for good reason).

But, if you can't afford a brand new artisan piece, does that mean you have to settle for cheap materials and questionable construction? Most certainly not.

Buying a well chosen vintage piece offers you the quality of days past at a much more attractive price point.

2. Fully Customizable

When you buy new, you usually only have a few options available to you. But, when you opt to restyle, a whole new world of options open up.

You can choose your colour, your fabric and your finish. You can also choose the quality of your fabrics, finishes and other materials, which gives you more control over your budget (whether it's big or small).

You're given the opportunity to create something (almost) from scratch, which brings me to my next point...

3. Oh So Stylish

When you're the one in the drivers seat, you get to make choices that reflect your own personal style. Rather than searching endlessly for the perfect piece, you get to create it.

This is how the most interesting homes become that way.

Plus, there's the added benefit of knowing that you are the ONLY person on the planet who owns that item. Talk about sealing the deal!

What do you think... Are you finally ready to take the next step in creating the home you've been craving by contacting a restying professional for your next piece?

Great post Lia! I totally agree with you and yes, it is worth restyling. Plus it's sustainable designing.

OMG! I totally left out the Eco factor... I guess that's how much I value sustainability... I don't even consider mentioning it anymore, I just assume!

Lovely - that dresser is fabulous! I couldn't agree more with your take on re-styling. I did that very thing recently with a vintage Craft Associates sofa and some wheat-colored canvas - it looks so much better, but still has those clean mid-century lines. Keep up the great posts, you inspire us!

(Oh, and thanks for the recent Twitter follow, too!)

Yes, restyling gives uniqueness. Brand new items almost always look the same, plain and boring. As long as you've got some creativity, it's not difficult to create great vintage pieces.
