Not Your Average Light Bulb

It's becoming increasingly popular to show off your bulbs. We're seeing lots of ceiling fixtures opting for an exposed look and going sans shade.

Nothing ruins this look more than opting for an average light bulb. So, if you choose to go this route, keep things interesting with an unexpected alternative to the ordinary offerings.

Here are four of my faves...

1. Edison Inspired

Get that vintage industrial look with a reproduction of the classic Edison bulb. The tungsten & carbon filament varieties add a warm glow and a sense of nostalgia. Rejuvination offers a number of classic styles.

2. KAWS Light Bulb Set for The Standard

Go for a modern, artistic look with coloured bulbs from KAWS for The Standard, available in red, purple & green. Play up the colour even more by pairing each bulb with a corresponding coloured cord for the ultimate pendant grouping.

3. Plumen

Eco-friendly never looked so good! Plumen upped the ante when they introduced the first designer energy saving light bulb in 2010. Great news... They're now available for purchase in North America!

4. Diamond Lights

They say that diamonds are a girls best friend... What lady wouldn't be delighted to add a little bling to her fixtures with this fabulously faceted creation? Diamond Lights are available through Eric Therner. (Photography by Jesper Lindström)

These are great. I really like the look of the exposed bulb but you are right, it has to be a special bulb to pull that off.
