Retro Pottery Lamp… Thoughts? Opinions?

I picked up this quirky lamp during the summer from a vendor at a street-wide vintage sale in a neighbouring city.

I must admit that it's pretty hideous in it's current condition. But, it won't be for long! Once it's recoloured, it's unusual shape will be transformed into a sculptural work of art.

Since the base is so unique, I'm planning on sticking with a simple, tall, drum shade, recovered in a neutral fabric, maybe with some subtle texture.

But again, I'm torn on what colour to do the base... Part of me wants to honour it's retro flavour and choose a nostalgic colour, like avocado. The other part wants to completely modernize it with a deep, jewel-toned colour, like navy, peacock green, or amethyst.

What colour do you think would best accent this shapely base?

I say modernize! I love the mix of vintage with new.

So many choices... I think this would look stunning with a nice burnt orange or a vibrant yellow and a charcoal shade - just to throw another choice into the pot...
