envelope A+D

Old meets new in this San Francisco home from envelope Architecture + Design. I stumbled upon this house tour and was struck by the home's unconventional exterior finish. One might think that painting the exterior of a house completely in black would hide all the fabulous architectural details original to the home, but it actually does the exact opposite. Without the visual distraction of several different colours, my eye is able to flow freely and take it all in. The one hit of colour they have included is genius! That sassy blue door pops against the dark canvas drawing you inside.

Once inside you'll find a mix of old world elements and modern updates working symbiotically together. I love the graphic wallpaper against the original mouldings, the wide plank wood flooring that lays beneath the contemporary kitchen cabinets and the amazing garage style door they've installed to blend their indoor and outdoor living spaces. A job well done from the team over at envelope A+D!
